Assessment 5: Multiple-Choice Questions

Choosing one of the three elective workshops on assessment is mandatory for UTQ/BKO candidates, and we welcome all interested teaching staff to join us. About the course

You have decided that you want to use a multiple-choice (MC) exam in your course. However, how do you make sure that the items you use are well-written and that you decide on relevant MC alternatives? This workshop provides you with tips and tricks to prevent the most occurring mistakes while making MC exams such as giving away unintended cues.

What will you learn

After completing this workshop, you will:

  • Develop insights into the use of MC questions.
  • Write MC questions that adequately assess partial knowledge.
  • Use distractors in MC questions.
  • Choose an adequate difficulty level for MC questions.
  • Interpret an item analysis to improve MC questions.
